About this piece: This piece was inspired by the feeling of renewal I felt every autumn as a child. September sunsets in the Pacific Northwest of the United States are particularly vibrant and crisp, which I attempted to achieve with bright colors and bold strokes.
Our climate continues to change and autumn sunsets in my hometown no longer look like this, the sun is obscured by wildfire smoke for weeks on end. Grief and nostalgia are embedded in this piece, as well as a longing for the hopeful energy I felt as a little one.
